Currently taking a break from her studies in communications and journalism at the University of San Francisco, Quito- Ecuador, Kaya joins Yarina for this performing season as a dancer, choreographer, and singer. Her warm presence and knowledge of traditional Andean dance adds a special touch to the group’s dance routines.
Ana performs traditional Andean dances, expressing through movement the beautiful timelessness of her culture. She is a dancer,
choreographer, and singer for Yarina. She divides her professional life between performing with the group, offering dance workshops, and working as a travel specialist with the Andean Discovery Agency of Ecuador.
Ati joined Yarina in 1997. Prior to that, he performed with the Andean Symphony Orchestra and his high school’s brass ensemble. He studied trumpet and sound engineering at the Franz Liszt School and the National Conservatory of Quito, Ecuador. As part of Yarina, Ati plays the guitar, pallas, bass, and trumpet. He is also a vocalist.
Ixca began playing at the age of 10 and joined Yarina in 2000 as its public relations manager in Ecuador and as a percussion player here in the U.S. He has a degree in social communication from the Universidad Nacional de Loja, Ecuador. Previously, he led PR efforts for another group in Ecuador.
The youngest member of the group, Tupac began playing music at the age of 12 and has performed with Yarina since the
tender age of 15. He studied music theory in Ecuador’s Instituto de Musica Luis de la Torre. Tupac plays the flutes, percussion, bass guitar, and keyboards.
Rumi studied music theory and majored in classical orchestra and solo flute. A member of Yarina since 1992, he previously performed with the Andean Instruments Symphony Orchestra of Imbabura, Ecuador. He plays the bass, guitar, pallas, kenacho, sampoñas, mandolin, and charango. He is also a vocalist and dancer.
Musical director, composer, and spokesperson for Yarina, Roberto left Ecuador at the age 16 to perform in Europe before settling in Boston, Mass. He solidified his musical expertise through studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He plays the violin, sampoñas, kenas, pallas, and guitar. He is also the lead vocalist.
